Lost Connections (Johann Hari) Visual Synopsis by Dani Saveker

£3.00

With an increasing epidemic of mental health challenges and depression, Dani wanted to find a book that explored this in depth; understanding what depression is, how it appears and what can be done to combat it. While not having experienced depression directly, she was intrigued by the fact that there’s been a 495% increase in antidepressant prescriptions in the UK since 1991.

This book demystifies things and plainly shows that antidepressants rarely work because the understanding of depression is so often misplaced. There are three areas that contribute to depression; biological, psychological and social. The latter two are the ones that are overlooked and yet contribute to the third, biological.

This a such a simple and yet fascinating presentation of the subject. Whether medically the contents are 100% accurate is not for us to say but it does open up a really interesting topic.

It’s worth mentioning that the author, Johann Hari, has previously had a tarnished reputation and is a little controversial,  but taking the book on it’s own merit, it is very interesting.
